Lock change in Crevillente, booked for a day that suits the house
A cylinder that has worn rough, a house just bought, an old mortice lock that needs help, a multipoint lock that drags. All of it planned for a day and an hour that suit you.

- A day and hour that suit you
- Your old lock kept if it can be
- Price agreed before work starts
The usual job: only the cylinder is replaced, which keeps the lock body and the door untouched and costs far less than a whole new lock. Mortice locks and multipoint locks are repaired where that makes sense, and replaced where it does not.
The locks
Cylinders, mortice locks and multipoint locks
Euro cylinders
The common lock in the flats of the Eixample and the Parquet and in newer houses. Replaced with a cylinder of the right length, so that it sits flush with the door furniture, and with an anti-snap design if the door is exposed to the street.
Old mortice locks
The lock set inside the thickness of the door, worked by a large key, the kind found in many older Spanish houses. Many can be repaired rather than replaced. If yours is in the Vila Vella or a cave in the Coves, those houses have a page of their own.
Multipoint locks
Bolts at several heights driven by one handle and one cylinder. When they drag, the door is checked before the lock, because a door that has dropped is the most common cause.
Local knowledge
Why locks here wear out the way they do
Crevillente is an inland town at the foot of its sierra, 25 km from the nearest beach in the town’s own tourist guide. The salt that eats cylinders on the coast is not what wears locks out here; use, age and dust are, and a key worn smooth wears its cylinder with it. How to tell what has worn your lock.
El Realengo was built in 1957–61 as a planned farming village, and some of its houses may still have original doors and locks. Before changing anything there, read what to check on a settler’s house door.
A shop, office or unit is planned around working hours instead: see the commercial page.

Try every key
The new cylinder comes with its own set; you test each one in the door before we leave.
The door has been forced, or you want something stronger than a standard cylinder? That is a high-security upgrade after a break-in. Locked out with a lock that has jammed? Opening the door comes first. Questions before booking: contact.
Questions
Questions before a new cylinder goes in
I have just bought a house. Should I change the lock on the first day?
It is the sensible thing to do. You cannot know how many keys to the old cylinder are still around. Changing the cylinder alone is usually enough and keeps the rest of the lock.
What is an anti-snap cylinder, and does my door need one?
A euro cylinder built to break at a sacrificial line outside the door, so that the part holding the cam stays put if someone snaps it. A cylinder that sticks out of the door is the one most worth replacing.
Our house has an old mortice lock with a big key. Can it be kept?
Often, yes. Many old mortice locks can be cleaned and repaired, or the case kept and the mechanism renewed. Where that is not worth it, a modern lock is fitted to the same door.
The multipoint lock on our door is getting harder to turn. Is it the lock?
Not always. A door that has dropped or a keep that has shifted makes the bolts drag. That is checked first; adjusting the door is cheaper than replacing a gearbox.
